Expressive Writing ..... A Route To Healing.

" People who engage in expressive writing report feeling happier and less negative than before writing. Similarly, reports of depressive symptoms, rumination, and general anxiety tend to drop in the weeks and months after writing about emotional upheavals "
~ James W. Pennebaker ~

Expressive writing is a personal writing. It expresses and explores the personal feelings of the writer. The piece may attempt to answer a question, state an opinion or recount the writer's personal experiences.

Pennebaker, a professor in the Department of Psychology at University of Texas says, " when people are given the opportunity to write about emotional upheavals, they often experience improved health "

Our mind are designed to try to understand things that happen to us. When a traumatic event occurs or we undergo a major life transition, our minds have to work overtime to try to process the experience. When we translate an experience into language we essentially make the experience graspable.

Tips for writing to heal :

> find a time and place where you won't be disturbed
> write continuously for at least 20 minutes
> don't worry about spelling or grammar
> write only for yourself
> write about something extremely personal and important for you
> deal only with events or situations you can handle now

Longer-term benefits of expressive writing :

> reduced depressive symptoms before examinations
> improved mood/affect
> feeling of greater psychological well-being
> reduced blood pressure
> improved immune system functioning
> improved lung/liver function
> reduced absenteeism
> improved working memory
> improved sporting performance
> higher students' grade point average
> altered social and linguistic behaviour

Excellence Is A Habit ..... Be Consistent.

" It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives. It's what we do consistently "
~ Anthony Robbins ~

Good eating habits and a regular workout routine contribute to good health.

How to keep fit and healthy ?

¤ Kick your bad habits.
Quit smoking, drugs, alcohol, sugar, junk food ... etc.

¤ Get your checkups.

¤ Enough sleep.
Lack of sleep adversely affects metabolism, mood, concentration, memory, motor skills, stress hormones and even the immune system and cardiovascular health.

¤ Exercise.

¤ Eat healthfully.

¤ Eat breakfast each day.
A healthy breakfast starts your day off right.

¤ Drink water.

¤ Reduce stress.

¤ Express yourself.
Unexpressed feelings can lead to depression, sleep problems, eating disorders, and even physical pain.

¤ Consistency and moderation.

Chance can allow you to accomplish a goal every once in a while, but consistent achievement happens only if you love what you are doing.
It is not that difficult to be fit and healthy.

Keep Those Nerves Under Control .....

" All The Best For Your Examination "

A test or examination is an assessment intended to measure a test-taker's knowledge, skill, aptitude, physical fitness, or classification in many other topics ( e.g beliefs ). A test may be administered orally on paper, on a computer, or in a confined area that requires a test taker to physically perform a set of skills.

Last-minute revision tips :

Although time may be short, you can still make a difference to your grade. Try and prioritise, do what you can.

> Use your revision tools ( prompts, diagrams etc ) to check final facts.

> Keep calm and consolidate your existing knowledge rather than trying to learn new topics.

> Don't stay up all night revising ; being overtired will not help you to do your best.

It is natural to feel nervous before an examination. The more prepared you feel, the easier it will be to conquer your fears.

Unlimited Happiness.....

" Emotion is the key to unlock the door to learning "
~ Dr. Jeannette Vos ~

Depression, fear, worry and constant thinking play far too much of a role in the lives of the average person. Strong emotion stops us thinking clearly. Daniel Goleman says that " at best, IQ contributed about 20 percent to the factors that determine life success, which leaves 80 percent to other forces grouped as emotional intelligence ".

Good " emotional intelligence " requires we understand our own moods, recognizing when and why we are upset and having very real strategies in place to be able to influence the way that we feel. Being able to control your emotions is a huge step towards unlimited happiness. Controlling your emotions doesn't mean ignoring them. It means you recognize them and act on them when you deem it appropriate, not randomly and uncontrollably.

In order to know how to control your emotions you have to first understand what causes an emotional change. The following is a practical plan that is based on the previous facts that will help you be in control of your emotions.

1. Control your self talk.

2. Whenever you feel a certain emotion try to control it.Don't allow it to grow because giving up to the emotion will only result in loss of control.

3. Every time you practice emotional control it will become easier, so train everyday.

If you succeeded in controlling your emotions you will take more rational decisions, you will communicate with people in a more effective way and you will become happier. Lots of people know how to communicate effectively but they fail to do it because they lack the ability to control their emotions.

Inner Strength ..... The Power To Understand.

" Come to the edge "
" We can't, we're afraid "
" Come to the edge "
" We can't, we will fall! "
" Come to the edge "
And they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew.

~ Guillaume Apollinaire , 1880-1918 ~
French Poet Philosopher.

Willpower is the inner strength and the inner engine that propels toward success and achievement. It is the power that pushes into action in every area of life.

Inner strength, manifests as the ability to control unnecessary and harmful impulses. It also manifests as the ability to decide, abide by this decision, and follow it with perseverance until its successful accomplishment. This ability gives you the courage and strength to endure and overcome inner and outer resistance and opposition, difficulties and hardships.

Everyone can develop this ability to a greater or smaller extent, depending on the desire, earnestness, ambition and time devoted to developing and strengthening this inner power. Developing will power and inner strength is a gradual process that everyone can undertake. Some will be able to reach higher levels of power, while others will reach different degrees of development, but the way is open to all.

A person with inner strength has the mental skills to confront the challenges of life. The secret to a strong mind is self-awareness. Get to know yourself well enough to not only expect, but also control, your response to the unexpected challenges in life.

Here are 3 successful ways to help you build your inner strength :

1. Find your strength.
You must learn how to search for your own patterns of activity that reveal your strengths.

2. Acknowledge your weaknesses.
Weaknesses are to be managed, not changed. Instead of focusing on what was left out, concentrate on what was left in. Don't try to overcome a weakness, learn to overwhelm it.

3. Reinforce your strong points.
For a skill to be strength, it must be something that is done with consistency. The secret to inner strength is being able to replicate moments of success. So there is a predictable outcome. Spend time, growing your strong points, not on strengthening your weak ones.

Training and exercising your willpower will fill you with strength, courage, and assertiveness. As your power grows, you will gain inner strength that will help you to have a better life.

" Your strength aren't in the words you speak,
It's in how you keep your word.

Your strength aren't in how hard you hit,
It's in how tender you touch.

Your strength aren't in the weight you can lift,
It's in the burdens you can carry "

Beautiful life . . .

There are lots of beautiful things around us. It's just a matter how we see it and whether we're able to realize it. In life, of course there are always some ups and downs. However, I believe, that even in the most difficult situation, there's always a beautiful thing. As wise people says,
" everything happens for a reason ".

I believe that every problem in life is like a red signal. If we wait for some time, it will turn into green ..... In our journey of life, we come across many problems. Always remember, every problem is temporary, some might be longer ..... but problems are not there to stop us forever, it is for convenience and break. Just be calm and patient ..... enjoy our beautiful life, without bothering much about those red signals.

Be grateful to life and believe that life is always full of surprises.
Give some surprises and take some.
Experience it and MAKE OUR LIFE BEAUTIFUL ♡♥

The Mind Speaks . . . Living From The Heart.

Thinking With Your Heart.

Your heart is the core of who you are. Your mind is the instrument of your heart. Emotion is behind thinking. And your " unsettled " emotions are buried very deep within your heart which feeds every cells of your body.

Living from the heart is all about placing your consciousness in your heart and practicing it daily. It is about placing your intention, and focus on the center point of your very existence-your heart.

Instead of being emotionally reactive you need to learn to be emotionally responsive. The first step in this process is halting. Back away from escalating conflict. Hold your tongue when you're about to lash out. Don't answer an emotionally loaded question on the spot. Wait to make an important decision. Don't say or do anything until you take time to process your feelings.

Being responsive rather than reactive will help you make better decisions and get along better with others. And it'll help you stay calm and confident when dealing with other people who overreact.

Be patient with yourself and give things time to work out. Don't be too hard on yourself.Take care of yourself . . . we each have the power to live from the heart and create happy and balanced lives.
Think with your heart and feel with your head.

Think big . . . . . .

" Your Dimension Of Greatness "

No one can know the potential
of life that is committed to win ;
With courage - the challenge it faces
to achieve great success in the end!

So, explore the dimension of greatness,
and believe that the world can be won ;
By a mind that is fully committed,
knowing the task can be done!

Your world has no place for skeptic,
no room for the doubter to stand ;
To weaken your firm resolution,
that you can excel in this land!

We must have vision to see our potential,
and faith to believe that we can ;
Then courage to act with conviction,
to become what god meant us to be!

So, possess the strength and the courage,
to conquer whatever you choose ;
It's the person who never gets started,
that is destined forever to lose!
~ unknown ~

POTENTIAL.

Anything that may be possible ; a possibility ; potentially.
Existing in possibility, not in actuality.

How to reach your potential?

Reflect on your life
Become an optimist
Set a goal
Define who your role models are
Be grateful
Become a life long learner
Embrace change.

" An important guideline for effective individual growth is open-mindedness. A willingness and eagerness to consider new information, new viewpoints, new ideas, and new possibilities is essential "
~ F. David ~

You are what you eat.

" Hunger is the best sauce in the world "
~ Cervantes ~

FOOD is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for the body. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism's cells in an effort to produce energy, maintain life, or stimulate growth.

Between the extremes of optimal health and death from starvation or malnutrition, there is an array of disease states that can caused or alleviated by changes in diet. Deficiencies, excesses, and imbalances in diet can produce negative impacts on health, which may lead to various health problems such as scurvy, obesity or osteoporosis, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases as well as psychological and behavioral problems.

Malaysia Dietary Guidelines has been recently revised ( in 2010 ), to combat the mounting problem of obesity in Malaysia. It has two aims - get people to eat healthier and get them to practice an active lifestyle. Basically, we need to make better food choices in our daily meals.

Learning Is Fun!

School Should Be Fun . . .

Emotion can have a powerful impact on memory. If you have fun in class when your teacher tried to explain, you'll remember the lesson. In the other hand, it is also very likely that you will not remember anything if you learn with a teacher you really don't like. In the long run, your emotional memory will prefer to skip all information related to this teacher and the bad memories you had in class. If you take care of your emotional memory, your emotional memory will be happy. That will make your learning fast, easy, efficient and fun.

" Emotional Intelligence " is the ability to identify, assess, and control the emotions of oneself, of others, and of groups. For years now, " Intelligence " has been wrongly defined as the ability to solve problems logically. But more and more research indicates that
" Emotional Intelligence " is of much greater importance in learning.

In fact, Daniel Goleman, in his top-selling book called Emotional Intelligence, says that " at best, IQ contributed about 20% to the factors that determine life success, which leaves 80% to other forces ; forces grouped as Emotional Intelligence "

Researchers Gordon Dryden and Dr. Jeannette Vos, in the world's biggest-selling non- fiction book for 1999, The Learning Revolution, expand on this total concept. Vos, who achieved her doctorate in education after a seven-year research program into the world's best learning methods, describes emotion as " the key to unlock the door to learning "

The emotional center of the human brain is located in the limbic system - sometimes called " the mammalian brain " because it is similar to the major part of the brain in other mammals. Dryden and Vos say the emotional center of the brain is closely linked with our long-term memory storage systems. That's why we all remember easiest any information with a high emotional content.

Give Your All . . . . .

" Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with all the facts "
~ Albert Einstein ~

Confidence is generally described as a state of being certain either that a hypothesis or prediction is correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective. Self-confidence is having confidence in oneself.
~ Full trust ; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing.
~ Belief in oneself and one's powers or abilities ; self-confidence ; self-reliance ; assurance.

" Confidence "

You don't always have to be in the lead . . .
If you have the heart to come from behind.
Don't give up hope, don't doubt yourself,
And a new strength is what you'll find.

The spirit of competition, the desire to succeed
will always be important for life.
So give your all, everything you've got,
no matter the occasion, through pain and strife.

So step up to the plate, enter the race,
never be afraid to take your turn.
Because the winners are people who just never quit,
and this is a life lesson we all will learn.

A Beautiful Mind

A mind is the complex of cognitive faculties that enables consciousness, thinking, reasoning, perception, and judgement - a characteristic of human beings, but which also may apply to other life forms.

How to have a beautiful mind : Edward De Bono.

Having a beautiful mind means :

» You can easily explore ideas with others.
» You can appreciate alternative points of view.
» You can find possibilities and alternatives.
» When you disagree, you can spell out the differences with clarity and precision.
» When there's a difference of opinion, you can openly explore the basis of the difference.
» Rather than just black or white, you can see the shades of gray.
» You make it a point to be interesting.

Concepts that act as a foundation for a beautiful mind : Edward De Bono

» Exploring ideas is more beautiful than making a case. ( argumentation is not beautiful )
» Gentle disagreement is more beautiful than aggressive disagreement.
» Being interesting is more beautiful than showing you are clever.

Ways to be interesting : Edward De Bono

» Choose to be interesting over clever.
» Talk about what you are good at and what interests you.
» Tailor your language based on your audience : those who know something about the subject and want to know more.

No matter how you look, if you have a mind that's fascinating creative, exciting - if you're good thinker - you can be beautiful. And being attractive doesn't necessarily come from being intelligent or highly-educated. It isn't about having a great personality. It's about using your imagination and expanding your creativity.

" A discussion should be a genuine attempt to explore a subject rather than a battle between competing egos "
~ Edward De Bono ~

" A good listener is very nearly as attractive as a good talker. You cannot have a beautiful mind if you do not know how to listen "
~ Edward De Bono ~

Cheer Up ! . . . . .

. . . . . . You Make My HEART Sing!

The heart is a myogenic muscular organ found in all animals with a circulatory system ( including all vertebrates ), which pumps blood throughout the blood vessels by repeated, rhythmic contractions. The term Cardiac ( as in Cardiology ) means " related to the heart " and comes from the Greek, kardia, for " heart ".

Some people thought that their emotions came from their hearts, maybe because the heart beats faster when a person is scared or excited. The fact is, emotions come from the brain, and this case, the brain tells the heart to speed up.

Tips to keep your HEART Happy :

@ Stay warm ; cold temperatures can increase blood clotting and cause blood vessels to constrict.
@ Get your flu shot ; Illness will put extra stress on the heart.
@ Take it easy ; excessive physical activity and emotional stress can have a negative impact on the heart.
@ Take on your problems one by one and work things out.
@ Look on the bright side and don't let the losers keep you from winning.
@ Give circumstances a chance, and give others the benefit of the doubt.
@ Rely on all the strength you have inside.
@ Keep your spirit up.

Hobbies to keep your HEART Happy :

» Travel » Gardening » Cook » Dance » Paint » Music

~ Do whatever it takes to keep your HEART happy. Love your body. Live your life . . .and never lose HEART ~

It Will Come

Just wait for your health ; the strength will come.

When everyone relies on you and there is no way you can see,
Trust your mind to think with time ; patience is the key.

When you have made it where others always flee,
Just wait to gather courage, soon you'll be where you want to be.

A mood is a relatively long lasting emotional state. Mood differs from emotions in that they are less specific, less intense, and less likely to be triggered by a particular stimulus or even. Moods generally have either a positive or negative valence. In other words, people typically speak of being in a good mood or a bad mood.

Types of mood :
Aggressive, angry bitter, bright, calm, care less, dramatic, difficult exciting, elegant, fierce, fun, gleeful, gloomy, happy, harsh, homorous, hungry, lazy, lively, malevolent messy, outraged, paranoid, playful, precious, raucous, relaxed, sad, silly, soothing, spooky, warm, whimsical . . . . .

Types of mood disorders :

C. Recurrent.
Recurrent depression is an extended pattern of depressed episodes. Depressed episodes can include any of the features of major depressive disorder.

Can't Stop Thinking! . . Workaholic.

A workaholic or ergomaniac is a person who is addicted to work. The term generally implies that the person enjoys their work ; it can also imply that they simply feel compelled to do it. There is no generally accepted medical definition of such a condition, although some forms of stress, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder can be work-related.

Workaholics can't stop thinking about work. Workaholics are very controlling. They can't delegate and are not usually interested in being team players. They are perfectionists and nothing is ever good enough for them. Workaholics would rather handle everything themselves, which doesn't always produce the necessary results because we often need the input and help of others.

Create Your Ideal Life.

YOU ARE YOUR ATTRACTION. . . THE LAW OF ATTRACTION.

The Law Of Attraction is a metaphysical belief or theory, that " like attracts like " and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results. The Law Of Attraction simply says that you attract in your life whatever you think about. Your dominant thoughts will find a way to manifest. We in present are the manifestation of our past or recent thoughts or attractions.

The Law Of Attraction will bring you whatever you truly desire. The Law Of Attraction states ; I attract to myself, whatever I give my focus, attention, or energy to : whether wanted or unwanted.

5 Simple Steps In Applying The Law Of Attraction :

1. Attract your life purpose by doing what you love.
You must be able to focus clearly on your life purpose and be able to picture it with clarity and detail in your mind.

2. The power of daily positive affirmations.
State in the present tense, in positive terms, short and specific.

3. Discover the valuable uses of guided meditation.

4. When you get an idea, take action on it.

5. Express gratitude.
The feeling of gratitude bring many positive emotions into your life. These positive emotions give you a more positive attitude. This positive attitude will continue to attract more positive experiences into your life.

" If you do not attract what you want to be, you will be what you are, Forever "

Boost Your Memory!

7 Simple Ways To Improve Your Memory :

1. Write about your problems.
A more efficient working memory contributes to better learning, planning, reasoning and more. One way to increase working memory capacity indirectly is through expressive writing.

2. Look at a natural scene.
Nature has a magical effect on us. In one study people who walked around an arboretum did 20% better on a memory test than those who went for a walk around busy streets.

3. Say words aloud.
A study found memory improvements of 10% for words said out loud or even just mouthed : a relatively small gain, but a tiny cost.

4. Meditate ( a bit )
In one recent study, participants who meditated for 4 sessions of only 20 minutes, once a day, saw boosts to their working memory and other cognitive functions.

5. Predict your performance.
When Meier et al (2011) tested people's prospective memory ( remembering to do something in the future ), they found that trying to predict performance was beneficial. On some tasks people's performance increased by almost 50%.

6. Use your body to encode memories.
We don't just think with our minds, we can also use gestures to encode memories.

7. Use your body to remember.
Since our bodies are important in encoding a memory, they can also help retrieving it. We are able to retrieve positive memories when we are happy.

Probably the best way of improving your overall cognitive health is exercise. Studies regularly find that increasing aerobic fitness is particularly good for executive function and working memory.

Show me and I may remember,
Involve me and I'll understand "

" Discover, Analyze & Solve it . . . . . Problem Solving "

" It's not that I'm so smart,
It's just that I stay with problems longer "
~ Albert Einstein ~

Problem solving is a mental process which is the concluding part of the larger problem process that includes problem finding and problem shaping where problem is defined as a state of desire for the reaching of a definite goal from a present condition that either is not directly moving toward the goal, is far from it or needs more complex logic for finding a missing description of conditions or steps toward the goal.

There are seven main steps to follow when trying to solve a problem. These steps are as follows :

1. Define and identify the problem.
Clearly understand the problem.
~ Develop a problem statement : Make sure the problem is limited in scope so that it is small enough to realistically tackle and solve.
~ State the goal : Stating the goal provides a focus and direction.
~ Considerations.

2. Analyze the problem.
In this stage of problem solving, questions should be asked and information gathered and
sifted.

3. Identifying possible solutions.
" The best way to have a good idea is to have a lot of ideas " ~ Grift Niblacks
~ Brainstorming
~ Buzz groups
~ Nominal groups
~ Delphi methods
~ Fantasy chaining
~ Focus groups
~ Methaphorical thinking
~ Considerations

4. Selecting the best solutions.
6 steps to decision making.
" Decision making can be seen as bringing one into an ambivalent relationship with both power and responsibility " ~ Michael Lerner

5. Evaluating solutions.

6. Develop an action plan.

7. Implement the solution.

"The Early Bird Catches The Worm"

~ Success comes to those who prepare well and put in effort ~

~ Whoever arrives first has the best chance of success; some opportunities are only available to the first competitors ~

~ If you start something early, you stand a better chance of success ~

If we want to achieve our goal, we must get an early start. If we do something early or before anyone else, we will have an advantage and be successful. This proverb teaches us that Procrastination leads to lost opportunities.
If you are a student, it is best to study early and in small Increments well before your test. Don't "Drag Your Feet" in preparation! Don't Cram the night before the exam.

Vocabulary :
Procrastination - to delay doing something
Drag your feet - to delay, to do something too slowly
Cram - to prepare hastily for test
Increment - a small change by which something is made larger

" BE ONTIME, DON'T DELAY "

" We Are Born With Certain Needs "

" Life is about being yourself.
Someone only you can be ...
Someone only you can understand ...
Someone that is unlike everyone else.
Someone that doesn't copy others to look the same.
Someone who is extremely unique.
Because You Are You "

~ Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs ~

Abraham Maslow believed that we are aware of our motives and drives for the most part and that without the obstacles of life, we would all become psychologically healthy individuals with a deep understanding of ourselves and an acceptance of the world around us.

Maslow's most well known contribution is the hierarchy of needs and this is often used to summarize the belief system of humanistic psychology. The basic premise behind this hierarchy is that " we are born with certain needs ". Without meeting these initial needs, we will not be able to continue our life and move upward on hierarchy.

The final level in the hierarchy is called the need for self-actualization. Self-actualization refers to a complete understanding of the self. To be self-actualized means to truly know who you are. Where you belong in the greater society, and to feel accomplished all that you have set out to accomplish. It means to no longer feel shame or guilty, or even hate, but to accept the world and see human nature as inherently good.

Many people likely tried to place themselves on one of the five levels of the pyramid. This may be an easy task for some, but many struggle with the ups and downs of life. For many of us, life is not that straight forward. We often have one foot in one level, the other foot in the next level, and are reaching at times trying to pull ourselves up while making sure we don't fall backward at the other times.

The goal of mankind, however, is to keep an eye on the top of pyramid and to climb as steadily as possible. We may stumble at times and we may leap forward at times. No matter how far we all backward, however, the road back up is easier since we already know the way.

" Strength and growth come only through continues effort and struggle : KEEP STRUGGLING "
