Assertiveness :
The quality of being assured and confident without being aggressive.
Dorland's Medical Dictionary defines Assertiveness as : " a form of behavior characterized by a confident declaration or affirmation of a statement without need of proof, this affirms the person's rights or point of view without either aggresively threatening the rights of another ( assuming a position of dominance ) or submissively permitting another to ignore or deny one's rights or point of view.
Assertiveness is often linked to Self-esteem.
in Sociology and Psychology, Self-esteem reflects a person's overall emotion evaluation of his or her own worth. It is a judgement of oneself as well as an attitude toward the self. Self-esteem encompasses beliefs ( for example, " I am competent ", " I am worthy ") and emotions such as triumph, despair, pride and shame. Self-esteem, is the positive or negative evaluations of self, as in how we feel about it. Self-esteem is also known as the evaluative dimension of the self that includes feelings of worthiness, prides and discouragement.
